Sailfish Sweep Lady 'Canes

AMERICUS, Ga- The Georgia Southwestern women's softball team (8-14) were swept Tuesday by Palm Beach Atlantic (16-12) at Lady 'Cane Field.

GAME 1: GSW 0, PBA 9

The first two innings were scoreless but Palm Beach quickly changed that scoring two runs at the top of the third. Stephanie Garrels scored the first run after getting to first on an error, stealing second and scoring after Victoria Gonzalez his a single down the middle. Gonzalez scored when Theresa Butler hit a double to center field. 

The 2-0 score stayed on the scoreboard up until the top of the sixth when the Sailfish scored three more runs. Karina Langer scored after Kayla Knight hot a double down the left field line. Knight ended up scoring off a wild pitch and Shelby Wood scored off an error.

Palm Beach score four more runs at the top of the seventh, one of which was a home run by Gonzalez.

The Lady 'Canes finished the game with four hits, zero runs, zero RBIs and two errors.

Brittany Childs (2-1)) took the loss for the Lady 'Canes after pitching three innings. She gave up five hits, two run, walked one and struck out one.

Savannah Carlise pitched five innings for GSW and gave up eight hits, seven runs, walked five and struck out one.

GAME 2: GSW 1, PBA 10

Palm Beach went into the second game just how they finished the second. They scored two runs in the first. Knight scored after Devin William hit a double to center field and later scored off an error by the short stop.

The Sailfish scored three more runs in the fourth, one in the fifth and had four in the seventh. Palm Beach scored six runs off home runs.

Keri Tompkins tried to save GSW with a home run in the seventh bringing her season total to eight which puts her tied for second in the Peach Belt Conference.

 GSW finished the game with two hits, one runs, one RBIs and two errors.

Haley Goodson (4-7) took the loss for the Lady 'Canes. Goodson pitched six inning, gave up 12 hits, 10 runs, walked one and struck out three.

Childs pitched one inning, gave up one hit, zero runs, walked one and struck out zero.

The Lady 'Canes are home on Friday to host Montevallo in a doubleheader at 4 and 6 p.m.
