Lady 'Canes Sweep Emmanuel

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga.- The Georgia Southwestern softball team (11-17) swept Emmanuel College (5-11) on Tuesday at the Lions Field.

GAME 1: GSW 3, EC 1

Emmanuel had the first run in the bottom of the first and held the 1-0 score through the second inning. At the top of the third Keri Tompkins knocked one out of the park with Rachel McElroy on base to take the lead 2-1.

Tomkins has hit 10 home runs this season to put her in second in the Peach Belt Conference. She is only one home run behind first.

The game stayed 2-1 through the fourth and fifth and at the top of the sixth Haley Warner hit a double to left field bringing in Savannah Carlisle to lead 3-1.

Emmanuel was unable to come back and the Lady 'Canes won 3-1.

The Lady 'Canes finished the game with five hits, three run, three RBI and no errors.

Savannah Carlisle (3-7) took the win for the Lady 'Canes after pitching seven innings. She gave up nine hits, one runs, walked one and struck out three.

GAME 2: GSW 9, EC 5

The top of the first saw GSW take an early lead, 5-0, when Warner racked up four RBIs in the with one hit for the Lady 'Canes sending McElroy, Haley Goodson and Tompkins in to score.

Emmanuel scored two in the third and three in the fourth to tie it up.

The scoreboard lit up again when Allee Denney drove in the go-ahead run to give the Lady 'Canes the lead back in the sixth inning. Denney racked up two RBIs on her first collegiate home run.

GSW increased its lead with two runs in the seventh. Denney started the inning with a single, scoring Savannah Carlisle. That was followed up by Steele's single, bringing home Kendall Stanaland.

GSW finished the game with 14 hits, nine runs, nine RBIs and one error.

Brittany Childs (3-2) took the win for GSW after pitching 3.2 innings. Childs gave up six hits, zero runs, walked one and stuck out two.

The Lady 'Canes play at Brewton-Parker on Friday at 1 and 3 p.m.
