GSW Softball Weekend Recap

Greenwood, S.C.- The Georgia Southwestern softball team (15-21, 2-10 PBC) traveled to Lander University (11-17, 6-8) on Saturday to play at Doug Spears Field where they split.

GAME 1: GSW 6 – LU 5

Lander made the first move in game one and took an early lead 3-0 after the first two innings. The Lady 'Canes rallied and came back to tie it after Erin Steele scored off a single from Keri Tompkins in the third and a home run from Chelsea Littlejohn in the fourth to bring in Savannah Carlisle.

Littlejohn homered again in the sixth to get another 2 runs and take the lead 5-4. Lauren Thrasher hit a homer in the seventh to guarentee the win by one run.

The Lady 'Canes finished the game with 11 hits, six run, six RBI's and one errors.

Savannah Carlisle (6-8) took the win for the Lady 'Canes after pitching 3.2 innings. She gave up five hits, one run, walked two and struck out two.

Brittany Childs started the game pitching 3.1 innings and gave up four hit, four runs, walked six and struck out one.

GAME 2: GSW 5 – LU 6

Game two was just as close as game one. Thrasher hit another home run and Haley Warner scored off a double from Littlejohn to give the Lady 'Canes the lead 2-1 in the second. Lander University was able to put up one run in each of the third, fourth, and fifth to take the lead 5-2.

With one out in the seventh, two on base and down by three Rachel McElroy stepped up and hit a home run to tie the game and send it into an international tie breaker. Unfortunately GSW was unable to score and Lander won by one run scored in the eighth.

The Lady 'Canes finished the game with eight hits, five runs, five RBI's and four errors.

Haley Goodson (4-9) took the loss for the Lady 'Canes after pitching 7.1 innings. She gave up nine hits, six runs, walked four and struck out five.

 

Aiken, S.C.- The Lady 'Canes were at J.H. Satcher Field on Sunday to face USC Aiken (17-5, 8-2) and lost both games.

GAME 1: GSW 3 – USC 11

Despite an early lead in the first when McElroy scored on a passed ball the Lady 'Canes took an eight run loss.

McElroy scored again in the third when Goodson hit a triple down the left field line and again in the fifth off a single from Thompson to trail by four. Aiken scored four more in the fifth including a 3 run home run to end the game.

The Lady 'Canes finished the game with eight hits, three runs, two RBI's and zero errors.

Carlisle (6-9) took the loss for the Lady 'Canes after pitching three innings. She gave up eight hits, six runs, walked four and struck out two.

Childs pitched 1.1 innings and gave up two hits, five runs, walked six and struck out zero.

GAME 2: GSW 0 – USC 1

The Lady 'Canes went scoreless in game two and Aiken won off a home run in the sixth.

The Lady 'Canes finished the game with four hits, zero runs, zero RBI's and one errors.

Goodson (4-10) took the loss for the Lady 'Canes after pitching six innings. She gave up four hits, one run, walked three and struck out seven.

The Lady 'Canes are back home at Lady 'Cane Field on Saturday to host Armstrong at 1 and 3 p.m.
