Pirates Sweep Lady 'Canes

AMERICUS, Ga.- The Georgia Southwestern softball team (15-23, 2-12 PBC) lost both games to Armstrong State University (21-9, 10-2 PBC) on Saturday at Lady Canes Field.

GAME 1: GSW 3, ASU 4

Armstrong led game one until the bottom of the fourth when GSW brought two runs in to take the lead by one. Chelsea Littlejohn singled one to short stop to bring in Lauren Thrasher and Allee Denny sent one up the middle to being in Haley Warner.

Armstrong scored two more in the fifth; one off a triple to right field and the other off one straight up the middle and then hit a home run in the seventh to take the lead 4-2.

Erin Steele scored in the bottom of the seventh with two outs but the Lady 'Canes lost it 4-3.

GSW finished the game with seven hits, three run, three RBI and two errors.

Haley Goodson (4-11) took the loss for the Lady 'Canes after pitching seven innings. She gave up nine hits, four runs, walked one and struck out four.

GAME 2: GSW 6, ASU 8

GSW was scoreless for five innings and Armstrong had a 3-0 lead going into the sixth. The Pirates scored two more runs to make it 5-0.

The Lady 'Canes started to rally after pushing across three runs in the bottom of the sixth to face just a 5-3 deficit. An error by the first baseman and a two-run home run by Littlejohn triggered what seemed to be the Lady 'Canes comeback.

Armstrong got three more runs in the seventh, one on an error and a two-run home run.

With bases loaded and no outs Warner hit one up the middle bringing Goodson home and with two outs Denny singles one up the middle to bring in Warner and Thrasher. Unfortunatly the rally ended with a ground out to third and GSW took an 8-6 loss.

GSW finished the game with 11 hits, six runs, five RBIs and three errors.

Brittany Childs (5-3) took the loss for GSW after pitching 5.2 innings. Childs gave up eight hits, four runs, walked five and stuck out three.

Lauren Thrasher made her pitching debut for the season and threw 1.1 innings, gave up hour hits, four runs, walked one and struck out zero.

The Lady 'Canes are on the road Wednesday to face Valdosta State in a doubleheader starting at 5 p.m.
