McCain Hits Grand Slam In Albany State Split

ALBANY, Ga.- Sophomore Hannah McCain hit a grand slam in Game 1 against Albany State to tie the game and help the Lady 'Canes win 11-10 in extra innings. GSW lost 7-2 in Game 2 to split the series on Tuesday at Lady Ram Park.

GSW moved to 8-6 overall while Albany State is 2-10.

GAME 1: GSW 11, ALBANY STATE 10

Albany State scored in the first off a fielders choice and put six more runs on the board in the third off a walk and two hits, including a two-run home run to lead 7-0.

The Lady 'Canes scored three runs in the fourth to stay afloat. Hayley Tierce scored off a single from Brittany Davis, McCain scored off a single from Brittany Childs and Davis scored off a walk.

Albany State hit another two-run home run in the fourth to lead by six.

McCain hit a double in the fifth to score Tierce and Joshlyn Martin, then with bases loaded in the sixth hit a four-run homer to tie the game 9-9.

The game went into extra inning and each team scored one run in the eighth to push the game to the ninth inning. Ella Hawkins scored off a single from Martin to take the one-run win.

McCain went 3-for-4 at the plate, recorded six RBIs and two runs. Tierce was 3-for-6 with three runs.

GSW finished with 11 hits, 11 runs, 11 RBIs and one error.

Shannon Gibson pitched two innings, faced 13 batters, allowed two hits, five runs and walked four.

Brittany Childs (W, 4-2) pitched seven innings, faced 31 batters, allowed seven hits, five runs, walked two and struck out five.

 

GAME 2: GSW 2, ALBANY STATE 7

Albany State had the first run of the game again in Game 2 off a home run in the second.

GSW tied it right up in the third when Allee Denney hit a double to score Mikela Barlow.

Albany State hit two more home runs in the third and hit one more in the fourth to lead 4-1.

McCain hit a single in the fifth to score Sabrina Sieber and Albany State hit a three-run homer to take the five-run win.

Game 2 ended in the sixth due to rain.

GSW finished with six hits, two runs, two RBIs and no errors.

Sieber went 2-for-3 at the plate, Martin and McCain were 1-for-2.

Kaley Sikes (L, 2-2) pitched 3.1 innings, faced 15 batters, gave up five hits, four runs, walked two and struck out one.

Brittany Childs pitched 1.2 innings, faced 12 batters, scattered four hits, three runs, walked three and struck out one.

The Lady 'Canes are home on Friday to play Brewton-Parker in a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
