Tierce Homers Twice In Georgia College Loss

AMERICUS, Ga.- The Georgia Southwestern softball team fell short of a comeback in game one and trailed early in game two to drop two games to Georgia College Sunday evening at Lady 'Canes Field.

GSW is now to 14-16 overall and 2-6 in the PBC, while Georgia College improved to 22-12 and 8-2 PBC.

GAME 1: GSW 7, GEORGIA COLLEGE 8

The Lady 'Canes captured the lead in the first inning when Hayley Tierce drove in two runs when she homered and scored Ella Hawkins.

Georgia College cut GSW's lead in half in the fourth and and drove in seven more runs in the sixth including a three-run triple to lead 8-2.

The Lady 'Canes loaded the bases in the sixth and scored five runs. Brittany Davis scored when Emily Smith reached on a fielders choice, Graysen Sanders scored when Mikela Barlow was hit by a pitch, Smith scored when Tierce was walked, Hawkins scored when Joshlyn Martin was hit by a pitch and Barlow scored off a single from Allee Denney.

GSW's effort to come back from down six runs in the sixth inning came up just short as they fell by one run.

Georgia College collected 12 hits while GSW recorded seven.

Martin and B. Davis were both 2-for-3 at the plate, Tierce was walked her next three at-bats after she homered in the first.

Shannon Gibson pitched 6.2 innings, faced 29 batters, struck out one, walked three, gave up seven hits and only allowed one run.

Brittany Childs (L, 7-5) pitched .1 inning, faced eight batters, allowed six hits, seven runs and walked one.

GAME 2: GSW 3, GEORGIA COLLEGE 9

Georgia College captured the lead in the first inning when they homered on a 1-2 count scoring three runs and scored again off a single up center field.

Tierece hit her second home run of the day and tenth of the season to score Barlow and cut the lead in half.

Georgia College homered again in the fourth and fifth innings and scored off a sacrifice fly to take a five-run lead. Smith scored GSW's last run in the bottom of the fifth and Georgia College hit a two-run homer in the sixth to take the six-run win.

Georgia College recorded 12 hits and GSW had four.

Kaley Sikes (L, 2-5) pitched 4.1 innings, faced 24 batters, struck out four and scattered eight hits, six runs and walked two.

Gibson pitched 2.2 innings, faced 13 batters, struck out one, allowed four hits and three runs.

The Lady 'Canes are on the road Wednesday to play Emmanuel College in a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
