Lady 'Canes Split With Lander University

GREENWOOD, S.C..-The Georgia Southwestern softball team got their third Peach Belt Conference win Saturday evening in their split with Lander University at Doug Spears Field.

GSW is now 15-19 overall and 3-7 in the PBC while Lander University moved to 13-23 and 5-9 PBC.

GAME 1: GSW 2, LANDER UNIVERSITY 1

Brittany Davis scored GSW's first run in the top of the first off a pop up and Joshlyn Martin hit a home run the next at bat to give the Lady 'Canes a two-run lead.

GSW's defense kept Lander University scoreless until the bottom of the seventh when they scored off a sacrifice fly.

Shannon Gibson kept Lander University to just the one run and took the win after pitching seven innings, struck out two and scattered eight hits and five walks.

B. Davis went 2-for-4 at the plate including a double to start off the game.

GAME 2: GSW 0, LANDER UNIVERSITY 1

Despite out-hitting Lander University in the second game GSW couldn't get a run in to recover from an early defeat.

Lander University scored the lone run of the game in the bottom of the first off an error.

The pitching was strong on each side, both pitching staffs keeping the remainder of the game runless.

Brittany Childs pitched seven innings and gave up three hits, one run and walked one.

Emily Smith went 2-for-3 at the plate, Mikela Barlow was 1-for-1 and Martin was 1-for-2 with a walk.

The Lady 'Canes are on the road Sunday to play USC Aiken in a PBC doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
