Three Named To Peach Belt All-Academic Softball Team

AMERICUS, Ga. - Georgia Southwestern softball players Ella Hawkins, Joshlyn Martin and Kaley Sikes were named to the Peach Belt All-Academic softball team released Tuesday afternoon.

The All-Academic team is part of a season-long program recognizing the outstanding accomplishments of PBC student-athletes in the classroom as well as on the field.

To be eligible for the All-Academic team, a student-athlete must 1) participate in at least half of his/her team's events and be either a starter or significant contributor; 2) achieved a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and 3) completed at least one full academic year at his or her current institution.

Hawkins picks up her first All-Academic honors. She was named PBC Presidential Honor Roll Bronze Scholar her freshman year. The sophomore from Americus appeared in 53 games this spring and recorded 38 hits, 27 runs, one double, three triples and eight RBIs.

Martin is also making her first appearance on the PBC All-Academic honors list. Last year she was named a Peach Belt Conference Presidential Honor Roll Scholar. The sophomore from Fountain Inn, S.C., has played in 54 games this season and recorded 66 hits, 34 runs, 13 doubles, two triples, six home runs and 45 RBIs.

Sikes is making her first appearance as a PBC All-Academic honoree as well. She was named PBC Presidential Honor Roll Bronze Scholar her freshman year. The sophomore from Perry, Ga., has played in 25 games and pitched 20 games for a total of 75 2/3 innings. At bat she recorded three hits, one run, two doubles, one home run and four RBIs.
