Lady Canes Earn No. 8 Seed In PBC Tourney

AMERICUS, Ga. -- The Georgia Southwestern State University softball team earned the eighth seed for the Peach Belt Conference Tournament hosted by the University of North Georgia in Dahlonega, Ga. May 4-6.

The Lady Canes finished with an overall record of 18-33 and a 7-13 mark in Peach Belt play to make the conference tournament for the first time since 2013.

GSW earned a Friday 4:00 p.m. quarterfinal date with No. 1 seed and top-ranked team in the country, North Georgia. The Nighthawks head into postseason play with a 53-2 overall record and 19-1 mark in conference play. Their 53 wins are more than any other NCAA team, in any division.

North Georgia hosts the tournament for the first time, but are the No. 1 seed for the fifth year in a row. The Nighthawks have won the past four PBC Tournaments and are poised to break a conference record should they extend that streak to five.

The top eight teams in the conference standings advance to the single-elimination tournament, which will be played for the first time at Haines & Carolyn Hill Stadium on the campus of the University of North Georgia.
