AMERICUS, Ga -- A late rally by the Georgia Southwestern softball team led them to taking Game 1 of a doubleheader against Auburn Montgomery Wednesday evening inside Lady Canes Field.

During Game 1 in the bottom of the fifth with Kayla Kerr on first and Chloe Zoeller on second, Sarah Beth King hit a home run over the centerfield wall to tie the game at 6-6. In the bottom of the sixth, Tanner Robertson was walked as she received an RBI when Mackenzy McFarland advanced for the score. Elizabeth Wills added insurance when she ran in on a pass ball to give GSW the Game 1 win. 

Game 1: GSW 8, AUM 7

Shannon Gibson picked up her fifth win of the season from the rubber as she had two strikeouts throughout the whole game and eight hits while giving up three earned runs of seven total. In the top of the second, an AUM single put the Warhawks on the board first. Miscommunication by the Lady Canes led to AUM stealing home for a score. An error by GSW led to another score for AUM as they led 3-0. With bases loaded in the bottom of the second, Wills picked up a pair of RBIs when she doubled into the right field to push King and Kerr across the plate to make the score 3-2. 

AUM added another run in the top of the third and put two more runs on the board when Michaelyn Foster doubled up the middle in the top of the fourth for two RBIs to put the score at 6-2. McFarland closed to gap to three runs when she homered over the left field wall in the bottom of the fourth as she started the Lady Canes rally. 

In the top of the seventh, a sacrifice popup by AUM pushed Olivia Aycock across the plate as the Warhawks were only down by one with two outs on the board. With one batter on base, a Warhawk grounded out to the shortstop as GSW took the opener. 

Game 2: GSW 0, AUM 10 (5 innings)

AUM (27-6) didn't wait long to take control in Game 2. In the top of the second, the Warhawks scored nine runs as Kendall Tucker led the way with a grand slam to open the inning. They hit two more home runs and a double before the end of the inning. GSW cycled through three different pitchers but Jennifer Jernigan picked up the loss as she gave up four hits, six runs and two home runs. 

Ansley Dean gave up one home run and three runs as Hayley Dickerson was sent in to relieve her in the top of the third. Dean finished the game as she gave up one earned run and two hits while also striking out two batters. GSW (16-12) had four hits and was left on base four times.
