Softball Split Wins On Senior Day

AMERICUS, Ga. -- In the 10th inning, a SAC bunt by Allyson Murdock pushed Kayla Kerr across the plate to tie the game at 5-5. With runners in scoring position, Chloe Zoeller singled up the middle as Sarah Beth King ran in for the go ahead score as the Georgia Southwestern softball team took Game 2 by score of 6-5 inside of Lady Canes field Saturday afternoon. 

The Lady Canes had a total of 21 hits between the doubleheader, with 14 of them coming in Game 2. 

 Game 1: GSW 0, UNCP 1

Both teams were blank until the top of the ninth inning, when UNCP's Alyssa Price, who entered the game as a pinch runner, scored on a SAC bunt by Tatum Brummitt in what would be the game-winning score. In the bottom of the ninth, the Lady Canes went three up and three down as the Braves took Game 1. 

GSW had seven hits and two errors as Shannon Gibson stood in the circle and took the loss. She gave up six hits while striking out two batters. GSW was struck out 10 times while leaving 11 players on base.  

Game 2: GSW 6, UNCP 5

UNCP took the initial lead, scoring two runs in the opening inning and adding another run in the top of the third before GSW could get on the board. In the bottom of the fourth, King hit a bunt single that pushed Hayley Tierce across the plate to make the score 3-1. The Braves (18-22, 5-9 PBC) scored another run on a passed ball in the top of the fifth inning. The Lady Canes returned the favor, scoring two runs in the bottom of the sixth. 

King picked up her second RBI of the day when she singled to center field, pushing Mackenzy McFarland in for the score. Aimee Oglesby picked up an RBI when she singled down the left field line and advanced Kayla Kerr across the plate to make the score 4-3. In the bottom of the seventh with one out and Chloe Zoeller and Tierce on base, Lauren Kuerzi hit a SAC fly out to left field that pushed Zoeller across the plate for the game tieing run. 

Madason Messer picked up her third win of the season, as she gave up nine hits, walked three batters and had three strikeouts for the Lady Canes (25-21, 9-7 PBC).
