Five Lady Canes Named To PBC All-Academic Team

AMERICUS, Ga. -- The Georgia Southwestern softball team placed five student-athletes on the 2019 Softball Peach Belt All-Academic Team in a release announced Wednesday by the PBC. 

Seniors Madason Messer, KayLynn Church and Hayley Tierce were atop the list for GSW. Messer is a Psychology major from Douglasville, Ga., who led the Lady Canes with a 3.694 grade point average. Church is a General Studies major from Columbus, Ga., who holds a 3.676 GPA followed by Tierce, an Elementary Education major from Warner Robins, Ga., who holds a 3.318 GPA. 

Junior Shannon Gibson from Colborne, Ontario, holds a 3.50 GPA while majoring in Exercise Science. Chloe Zoeller, a sophomore from Flowery Branch, Ga., is a Nursing major who holds a 3.556 GPA. 

The team is part of a season-long program recognizing the outstanding accomplishments of PBC student-athletes in the classroom as well as on the field. To be eligible for the All-Academic team, a student-athlete must 1) participate in at least half of his/her team's events and be either a starter or significant contributor; 2) achieved a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and 3) completed at least one full academic year at his or her current institution and has reached sophomore athletic eligibility. The Peach Belt Conference Sports Information Directors oversee the program.
