COLUMBUS, Ga. -- The Georgia Southwestern softball team dropped a pair of games to end day 2 of the Cougar Classic as Queens (N.C.) won 8-0 while the Lady Hurricanes fought out nine innings to eventually fall to Union (Tenn.) 4-3 during Game 2.

Allyson Murdock finished the day 3-for-6, going 2-for-2 during Game 1. Kimmy Singer picked up three hits with a RBI during Game 2 while Katelyn Wood sole hit was a RBI double.

Game 1: GSW 0, Queens (N.C.) 8 (5 innings)

Queens (N.C.) started fast in the opening inning scoring two runs early in with just one hit. GSW returned in the bottom second with bases loaded and two outs but Singer was grounded out for the third out to end the inning. In the top third, the Royals started the inning with a deep home run into right center field. Three batters later, Queens (N.C.) sent a two-run bomb over centerfield to extend their lead.

The Royals ended the game in the fifth inning with a three-run home run. Shannon Gibson and Jennifer Jernigan shared the circle as Jernigan led with four strikeouts but Gibson took the backend of the lost.

Game 2: GSW 3, Union (Tenn.) 4 (9 innings)

Union (Tenn.) jumped on the board in the bottom of the second and held strong until the top of the fifth, when GSW tied the score. With two on bases and one out, Wood doubled down the left field line and picked up an RBI to tie the game. Singer, who was in the mix, advanced a little too far as she was deemed out at the plate.

After a scoreless six inning, Singer hit a RBI single to put the Lady Hurricanes up with only three outs remaining to win. Unfortunately, Union (Tenn.) responded in the same fashion with a RBI single to tie the game and push it into extra innings. A RBI single in the top eighth by Jacie Johns gave GSW the lead but Union (Tenn.) responded back to tie the game. The Lady Hurricanes left two on bases in the top of the ninth inning but with two outs, Union (Tenn.) was able to win the game with a RBI single. Hannah Holloway put in 8.0 innings of work with four strikeouts for the Lady Hurricanes, who left nine runners on base.
