No. 17 Clayton State women top GSW, 90-60

MORROW, Ga. -- The No. 17-ranked Clayton State women's basketball squad rolled to a 90-60 Peach Belt Conference victory over visiting Georgia Southwestern on Wednesday evening at the Clayton State Athletics & Fitness Center.

Nikkisha Pritchett's 13 first-half points helped the Lakers set the pace early, as GSW was down by 12 after 10 minutes of play.

Clayton State (11-1, 5-0 PBC) held a 49-34 halftime lead. The Lady 'Canes hopes of narrowing the deficit after the break were quickly dashed as Southwestern missed their first 10 field goal attempts in second half. A Whitley Wiltz three pointer with 13:48 left was the first GSW field goal in the period. The Lady Hurricanes shot an ice cold 21.6 percent from the floor in the second stanza.

Southwestern (5-8, 0-6 PBC) was led by Nadirah Gardner's 14 points and Whitley Wiltz's ten points and game-high 17 rebounds.

Pritchett finished the night with 20 points on 8-of-12 shooting for the Lakers, including 4-of-6 from beyond the arc. Brittany Hall added 17 points, Tanisha Woodard scored 12 and Lisa Jackson chipped in 10 points.

The Lady Hurricanes return home on Saturday, January 17, for a 2:00 p.m. Peach Belt Conference contest with UNC Pembroke.

Saturday's game is the second annual "Pack the Stands Day."  The campus organization with the most participation will receive a grand prize from RHA and CAB.  It will also be Hurricane Reading Club Day.  Area elementary students who met their reading goals received two tickets to the women's and men's games and will be recognized at halftime of the men's contest.
