Lady Hurricanes lose to North Georgia, split season series

North Georgia earned a split in the season series with a 70-57 win over GSW in Dahlonega on Monday night.

Southwestern defeated NGCSU 76-64 in Americus on January 28.

The Lady Hurricanes jumped out to an early 11-2 lead and held their biggest lead of the night at 19-8 with 13:08 remaining in the first half.  North Georgia answered with a 16-2 run over the next seven minutes and built the lead to seven (34-27) heading into the break.

Southwestern managed to stay with seven points for most of the second half, until the Lady Saints began to pull away with four minutes left. 

GSW (7-17, 2-15 PBC) shot 42 percent in the first half and 36 percent for the game; North Georgia shot 42 percent overall.

The Lady Hurricanes connected on only 2-of-14 from beyond the arc and shot 59 percent from the foul line.

Brittany Reynolds led the Lady Hurricanes, posting her third double-double of the season, with 17 points and a game-high 16 rebounds. Whitley Wiltz added 12 points and seven boards.

Syretha Marble led North Georgia (7-17, 4-13 PBC) with 25 points and 10 rebounds; Danielle Seeley added 11 points.

North Georgia held a 40-28 advantage in points in the paint and 27-12 in points off turnovers.

The Lady Hurricanes travel to Georgia College on Wednesday for game three of their four-game road trip.

North Georgia defeats GSW, 90-82   

Chris Rawls posted his sixth double-double of the season, but it wasn't enough as North Georgia defeated GSW 90-82 in Dahlonega on Monday night.

Rawls scored 21 points and grabbed 11 rebounds; Anthony Sargent added 16 points and Evan Mobley had 12.

The Hurricanes got off to a quick start in this game.  GSW was on top 10-2 early and held a 16-8 advantage with 14:30 left in the first half - eerily similar the women's game played earlier in the evening (see story above)

Southwestern relinquished the lead with 43 seconds left in the half and trailed by one at the break (45-44).  The second stanza was controlled by North Georgia (13-10, 7-10 PBC).

GSW (9-15, 5-12 PBC) shot 52 percent in the first half and 50 percent for the game; North Georgia shot 54 percent overall. The 92 points allowed is a season-high for Southwestern.

Andre Morgan led five NGCSU players in double figures with 21 points; Brody Langston had 18, LaBrian Lyons added 17, Michael Moynihan went for 16 and Anthony Rowe scored 10.

The Hurricanes travel to Georgia College on Wednesday for game three of their four-game road trip.
