Lady Canes knock off Florida A&M

The Lady Canes basketball team is a perfect two-for-two in the exhibition season after a 51-49 win over Division I Florida A&M Sunday afternoon in Tallahassee.

GSW newcomer Brandi Burris led the Hurricanes with 11 points. Burris hit a layup with eight seconds remaining to give GSW the win. Nadirah Gardner added 10 points. Jamilah Sharp and Terra Branch chipped in nine apiece. Brittany Reynolds pulled down seven rebounds.

The Lady Hurricanes started strong, jumping to a 10 point lead (18-8) in the middle of the first half.  GSW extended the margin to 13 (25-12), the biggest of the night for either team, with 5:40 to go in the first half.  GSW led 28-24 at the break. 

The host Rattlers took their first lead of the second half with 5:35 left in the game and held it until twelve seconds remained. 

Stephanie Foster scored 18 points and pulled down nine rebounds for FAMU.   

The Lady Hurricanes open the 2008-09 regular season on November 17 at home against North Alabama.  Tip-off is set for 5 p.m.
