GSW women remain perfect, defeat Florida Tech 65-56

WINTER PARK, Fla. - The Georgia Southwestern women's basketball team improved to 3-0 after a 65-56 win over previously unbeaten Florida Tech on Friday afternoon in the second game of the Rollins College Thanksgiving Classic. GSW had four players score in double digits, led by a game-high 16 points from Jessica Bivins.

Southwestern grabbed the lead, 8-6, with 17:45 remaining in the first half and never trailed the rest of the way. The Lady Hurricanes opened a 13-point advantage early in the second half before Florida Tech tied the game at 51-51 with just under seven minutes left in the contest. 

The Lady Hurricanes closed out the afternoon on a 14-5 run.

GSW shot 40.6 percent from the floor for the game, while holding Tech to 29.3 percent.

Florida Tech (4-1) won the battle of the boards, 51-48, but Southwestern held a 34-18 bench points advantage.

Tania Walters and Cierra Duhart added 11 points apiece for GSW. Duhart capped off a double-double by snagging a game-high 17 rebounds. Terra Branch chipped in 10 points.

Kristen Dixon led Florida Tech with 16 points.

Southwestern returns to the hardwood on Saturday afternoon to face tournament host Rollins College at 1 p.m.
