GSW women suffer first loss

WINTER PARK, Fla. - The Georgia Southwestern women's basketball team suffered its first loss of the season, a 80-50 decision to unbeaten Rollins College, on Saturday afternoon in the third game of the Rollins Thanksgiving Classic.

After GSW had closed the margin to 13-10 with 9:20 remaining in the first half, Rollins went on an 18-4 run over the next five minutes and opened a 17-point advantage.

The Lady Hurricanes could get no closer than 11 points (40-29) the rest of the way.

GSW shot a season-low 31.3 percent from the floor for the game. Rollins finished at 45.3 percent after shooting 51.6 percent in the second half.

Rollins (7-0) held a large rebounding advantage, 53-32, and outscored GSW in the paint, 40-24.

Nadirah Gardner and Jessica Bivins led Southwestern scorers with 11 points apiece. Cierra Duhart led all players with four blocked shots.

Kristina Mingos finished with a game-high 23 points for Rollins.

Southwestern returns home on Wednesday for a 6:30 p.m. game against West Florida.
