MORROW - The 2nd-ranked Clayton State women's basketball team opened with 13 unanswered points against Georgia Southwestern on Wednesday evening at the Athletics and Fitness Center and cruised to an 83-60 victory.

The Lady Hurricanes missed five shots and committed six turnovers over the opening four minutes of the game. On the other side, the Lakers hit 6 of 7 shots and grabbed a lead they would not relinquish the rest of the night.

GSW pulled to within eight points (16-8) with 12:34 after Jessica Bivins converted a three-point play, but that's as close as the Lady Hurricanes could get.

Clayton State led 40-20 at halftime and opened the second period with a 5-0 run to open its largest lead of the game at 45-20.

Tania Walters paced the Lady 'Canes with 13 points. Kanita Holloway added 11.

Tanisha Woodard scored 23 to lead Clayton State (21-0, 10-0 PBC). Drameka Griggs chipped in 12 points.

For the game, GSW shot 35.8 percent from the floor, while Clayton State connected on 50.7 percent.

The Lakers scored 48 points off GSW turnovers - compared to 16 by the Lady Hurricanes - and held a 52-18 points in the paint advantage.

Southwestern (9-10, 3-7 PBC) finished 1-3 on its four-game road trip and returns to the Storm Dome on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. for Homecoming against Montevallo.
