PENSACOLA, Fla. – After winning games both home and away to start the 2011-12 season, the Georgia Southwestern women's basketball team was looking to take the next step: earn a winning streak. GSW's 70-66 victory over West Alabama (1-3) in the West Florida Tournament Saturday evening did just that.

The Lady 'Canes had four players score in double figures led by senior forward Jessica Jones. The transfer from Mars Hill paced the Hurricanes with 17 points and nine rebounds. Tania Walters (14 points), Terra Branch (10 points) and Adrian Randall (10 points) rounded out the front end of the GSW scoring attack.

The game began with the Lady Tigers taking a 9-6 lead after the game's first five and a half minutes. The Blue & Gold answered with a run of their own taking a 16-15 lead midway through the first half. West Alabama would take a stranglehold of game from there with a 34-24 halftime lead.

The Lady Tigers would have the upper hand until a Jessica Jones jump shot would give GSW the lead with 12:03 remaining in the game. The next six minutes would see the two teams exchange taking turns leading the game. The Lady 'Canes would take the lead for good with five minutes remaining.

UWA's Brittany Weathers would post a game-high 23 points and ten rebounds in the losing effort. She was supported by Kottia White and Tamya Thompson who each chipped in ten points.

The victory advances the GSW record to 3-0 on the year. They will be back in action tomorrow as they play their second game in as many days. Their match-up versus West Florida is scheduled to tip off at 7 p.m. eastern standard time.
