AMERICUS, Ga. – After splitting their first two games of the new year, the Georgia Southwestern Lady Hurricanes were looking to tilt 2012 back towards the win column. Despite earning a halftime tie the Lady 'Canes would drop their second PBC game of the new year (third of the season) 73-80 to Armstrong Atlantic (9-6, 4-6 PBC) Saturday afternoon.

Senior guard Jessica Bivins would drop 21 points in the losing effort to go along with her six rebounds and six steals. She was one of three double-digit scorers for the Blue & Gold, which also included Terra Branch's 16 points and Briana Walker's eleven points. Samantha Smith would tally a game-high twelve rebounds to go along with her eight points.

The usually hot-shooting Lady 'Canes shot 21.1% from beyond the arc (4-19). Defensively, GSW forced 28 turnovers and evened the rebounding battle at 42 total rebounds. GSW's bench scoring was more than doubled by the Pirates' bench 28-10 points.

Armstrong's Mauri Wells led the visitors to victory with her 17 points and twelve rebounds. She was one of four double-digit scorers for the Pirates, which also included Angela Hill (15 points), Demisha Wells (12 points), D.D. Gipson (12 points). The quartet aided Armstrong in shooting 52.8% from the field for the game with 46.2% shooting from three-point range.

With a 32-32 score at the halftime intermission, the Pirates would go on a 17-3 run over 4:25 beginning at the 16:50 mark in the second half.  The Lady 'Canes would cut that lead to as few as one point before going on to lose by seven points.

The loss puts the Georgia Southwestern record at 9-4 (1-3 PBC) on the year. The Hurricanes will look to capture their tenth win of the season in less than 48 hours. The visiting Flagler Saints will come to the Storm Dome on Monday, January 16 at 1:30 PM.
