In a Sharing Mood

AMERICUS, Ga. – Facing a 48-hour turnaround is a daunting task for any team, but the Georgia Southwestern Lady Hurricanes handled the challenge in their second game of the turnaround. Their 87-50 victory over the Flagler Saints (2-13, 1-8 PBC) on Monday afternoon was much needed after losing to Armstrong Atlantic two days before.

The usually offense-driven GSW attack took a back seat to defense against the Saints. The Blue & Gold held Flagler to 31.1% from the field for the game and an even worse 7.7% (1-13) shooting from beyond the arc . The limited offensive output by Flagler culminated in the Saints only having one double-digit scorer. In addition to limiting their opportunities to shoot, the 'Canes forced 26 turnovers.

Those turnovers ignited their offense via 35 GSW points off of turnovers. The offense was in a sharing mood as Georgia Southwestern registered 23 assists among six different players on 33 made baskets. Leading the passing was senior guard Tania Walters with a game-high six assits. Coach Britsky and company shot a respectable 43.4% from the field, which included an even more respectable 6-14 (42.9%) from three-point range,

Georgia Southwestern had five players score in double figures for the fifth time this season. Leading the charge was junior forward Adrian Randall's 18 points in 18 minutes played coming off the bench. She coupled her scoring output with nine rebounds and five blocks. Rounding out the Hurricanes' double-digit scorers were Jessica Bivins (14 points), Terra Branch (13 points), Samantha Smith (10 points) and Briana Walker (10 points).

For Samantha Smith, the Washington, North Carolina native, recorded her second double-double of the season as she teamed her ten points with eleven rebounds. The aforementioned Tania Walters provided a little bit of everything in the victory. The point guard finished the evening with nine points, seven rebounds, six assists and four steals.

After scoring the game's first two baskets, Flagler would fall behind compliments of 30-6 GSW run over the course of eleven minutes. The run put the game out of reach as the game headed into halftime with GSW leading 49-25. GSW would continue to push the game out of reach after they would open the second half with an 18-4 run. The Blue & Gold would coast easily through the remainder of the game before securing the 37-point victory.

Flagler's only double-digit scorer was Taye'Lor Trotter with ten points. All ten of the Saints who played in the game would score. Leading the rebounding effort for Flagler was Jen Knurek who had nine rebounds to go with her four points.

The victory advanced the GSW record to 10-4 (2-4 PBC). They will look to make it back-to-back victories as they will travel to Augusta to take on the Jaguars. They will face Augusta State on Saturday, January 21st at 5:30 p.m.
