VSU Pulls Away from GSW

AMERICUS, Ga. - An outstanding overall performance from Valdosta State's Brittney Nelson proved to be too much for the Lady Hurricanes as Valdosta State prevailed Saturday evening, 67-41, in the Storm Dome.

Nelson snatched 21 rebounds, chipped in 12 points, blocked four shots and dished out five assists as she helped the Lady Blazers pull away in the second half to keep GSW (0-3) winless on the season.

Nelson led a balance effort for VSU (3-0) as four players scored in double digits. The starting lineup provided 63 of Valdosta States 67 points.

VSU guard Kimyia Smith (16 points) led the Blazers in scoring.

GSW freshman sensation Jasmine McSwain had another good effort for the Lady Hurricanes. The 5'11 swing forward was just shy of a double double as she finished with 18 points and nine rebounds on the night.

Junior combo guard Shanniece Sheffield finished with a career high 10 points.

Georgia Southwestern will be back in action next Saturday, Nov. 24, as they travel to Fort Valley, Ga to take part in the SIAC/PBC challenge.
