AMERICUS, Ga. - It was a tale of two halves for the Georgia Southwestern Lady Hurricanes Thursday evening in the Storm Dome as the Blue & Gold couldn't maintain the momentum from a strong first half and stretched out their current losing streak to 10 games, succombing to Peach Belt foe Columbus State, 79-61.

GSW sophomore guard Kayla Dayton scored seven quick points as the Lady 'Canes raced out to a 13-5 lead five minutes into the contest.

Southwestern held the lead for the majority of the first half but the Lady Cougars slowly fought back and and took the lead, 33-32 on a made three-point basket from Shan Basley with just over a minute remaining in the half.

The Blue & Gold quickly responded and closed the first half strong scoring the final six points to give GSW a 38-33 lead going into halftime.

In the second period it was all Columbus State.

The Lady Cougars used 50 percent shooting (17-34), including a hot 5-10 from the behind the arc, to score 46 second half points to run away from Southwestern, 79-61.

The Lady Cougars, currently leading the Peach Belt Conference in three pointer field goals per game, lived up to their hot shooting reputation as CSU ended the game shooting 53.3 percent (8-15) from three point territory.

Dayton led Georgia Southwestern (3-18, 1-13 PBC) with 14 points while junior forward Ottishia Burden came off the bench to chip in a career-high 10 points.

Southwestern's leading scorer Jasmine McSwain was held to only five points on the evening, but the freshman forward contributed a game-high six steals in a contest that saw a combined 56 turnovers between the two teams.

Columbus State (12-9, 8-6 PBC) was paced by Basley's 22 points. The senior guard finished the game shooting 4-of-5 from behind the arc.

GSW will be back in action this Saturday as the Blue & Gold hosts Georgia College in the Storm Dome for a 5:30 p.m. contest.
