AMERICUS - The Georgia Southwestern women's basketball team had four of its five starters score in double digits on Tuesday evening and the Lady Hurricanes connected on over 50 percent of their shots in an 87-46 opening-night win over Truett-McConnell in the Storm Dome.

The Bears fall to 1-2 this season and have lost all five meetings with GSW since the Lady Hurricanes joined the NCAA ranks in 2006.

Junior Shatoria Hudson scored a game-high 16 points to pace Southwestern behind 7 of 10 shooting. Junior transfer Shanedra Lockett pulled down a game-high eight rebounds and added 13 points in her GSW debut. Sophomore Jasmine McSwain scored 14 points and junior Tiara Thompson chipped in 11 in her first game with GSW. 

After connecting on a pair of free throws to tie the game at 9-9 early in the first half, Thompson drained a jumper to put GSW ahead for good. The Lady 'Canes proceeded to go on a 32-9 run to close out the half and led 43-18 at the break.

Southwestern hit 6 of 8 attempts from beyond the arc over the final 20 minutes and never gave the Bears an opportunity to get back in the game.

GSW ended the night shooting 51.5 percent from the floor while holding Truett-McConnell to 37.8 percent. The Lady Hurricanes controlled the rebounding battle (36-23), bench points margin (29-16) and dished out 15 more assists (20-5) than the Bears.

Truett-McConnell was led by by Briana Jones' 12 points off the bench. Krista Dixon grabbed a team-high five rebounds and added eight points.

The Lady Hurricanes return to the hardwood on Saturday to host Northwood University (Fla.) in a 4 p.m. contest.
