Sophomore Duo Shines in Lady 'Canes Loss

AMERICUS – Sophomore Jasmine McSwain posted her first double-double of the season by scoring 12 points and grabbing 12 rebounds in a losing effort as Georgia College defeated Georgia Southwestern, 69-58, on Saturday afternoon in the Storm Dome.

During the first half there was no clear leader in the game. Each team was splitting time in the lead. GSW achieved a lead of six points with four minutes left in the half; this was Southwestern's largest lead of the afternoon. The Lady 'Canes led 29-25 at the half.

McSwain did her best scoring in the second half, as she was 4-for-4 from the free throw line and connected 2 of 6 field goals and pulled down six defensive rebounds.

The Lady Bobcats were able to catch GSW with 17:50 to play and take the lead for good one possession later. GC's largest lead of the afternoon came in the final minute, ahead by 13. McSwain made two free throws to close the game out at 69-58.

Sophomore Danyelle Jones had a great scoring night with 15 points, this is her career high at GSW. She also contributed seven rebounds (another career high) and three assists. Shanedra Lockett and Tiara Thompson scored nine points, six rebounds, and one steal each. Lockett added four assists to her stats.

This was senior Ottishia Burden's first game back after her injury. Burden recorded four minutes of playing time and two points.

Freshman Sierra Barrino-Kennedy recorded her personal best with four blocks.

GC recorded two double-doubles for Thresia Elskamp and Keys, along with double-figure scoring from Enisha Donley and Brandi McKinney.

The Lady Hurricanes are now 4-3, 0-1 PBC this season. Georgia College improves to 6-0, 2-0 PBC. This is the 12th win for the Bobcats against the Lady 'Canes (12-4) since GSW joined the NCAA in 2006-07.

Southwestern will be on the road on Saturday, Dec. 14 playing Peach Belt Conference opponent Clayton State at 1:30 p.m.
