Bobcats Overturn The Hurricanes

Milledgeville, Ga. – Georgia Southwestern competed in a high fouling game against Georgia College in a Peach Belt Conference game on Saturday afternoon. Although the Lady 'Canes had three ladies shooting in double digits, Georgia College had four taking the win in the end, 76-62.

Georgia Southwestern continues to an 8-13, 3-11 PBC record. Georgia College advances to a 15-5, 8-5 PBC record.

It was a tough first half for both teams during the first half. Shatoria Hudson put up the first points for GSW after four minutes of play had past. Sierra Barrino-Kennedy was next to put up five points up on the scoreboard, GSW 7-9. Danisha Green was able to break the lead for GSW at 9:48, with a pair of free throws. The lead was sealed for Southwestern after a three by Jasmine McSwain, followed by a jump shot and a pair of free throws by Shanedra Lockett. GSW reached their largest lead at 7:18 by eight points. The Lady 'Canes finished the half with a seven point lead 32-25.
GSW scored 10-of-27 attempts. Georgia College didn't do any better making 9-of-34 attempts from the field.
The Lady 'Canes held on to the lead as long as possible during a GC 14-3. The Lady Bobcats achieved the lead at 12:24. Georgia College's Brandi McKinney started to seal the win for the Lady Bobcats with two back to back three-pointers, leading by 12 at 5:02. The largest lead for Georgia College during the game, 16 points, with thirty seconds left in the game. Lockett was able to get the last say with a layup to finish the game.

The Lady Hurricanes committed 25 fouls over the course of the game with Tiara Thompson fouling out and four other Hurricanes getting in foul trouble. Resulting in 13 of Georgia College's points in the second half.

Lockett was the leading scorer for GSW with 17 points and grabbing eight rebounds. McSwain and Hudson scored ten points each. Shanteona Keys reached a game high of 20 points and grabbed nine rebounds for Georgia College. McKinney, Belinda Schaafsma, and LaRice Walker also scored double digits for the Lady Bobcats.

The Lady 'Canes are back at home on Wednesday, February 12th at 5:30 to take on University of Montevallo Falcons.
