BELMONT, N.C-  After a tough loss Friday night the Georgia Southwestern women's basketball team turned it around and put up the points to beat Belmont Abbey Saturday night at the Wheeler Center 76-72. Senior Tiara Thompson lead the Lady 'Canes to their sixth victory of the season, making their record 6-1.

Thompson put up 28 points including two 3-pointers and had 8 rebounds, Shanedra Lockett had 18 points with 8 rebounds and Danisha Green added 11 points.

Lockett and Green each had layups and Lockett made a free throw to give GSW a five point lead. Thompson made another lay up and Hudson put in a jump shot to bring GSW a seven point advantage. Belmont Abbey started coming back with three consecutive jump shots. At the 12:48 mark the Crusaders tied it up 15-15 with a 3-pointer. Thompson put in a 3-pointer and Green put in a layup after a steal to take back the lead for GSW.

The Lady 'Canes made four more free throws, 4 lay ups, one 2-pointer and 3 3-pointers to give GSW a 12 point spread going into the second half with a score of 43-31.

The Crusaders put up more of a fight in the second half  with ten more points then the first and shooting 50% and making 80% of their free throws. They kept the score tighter but the Lady 'Canes proved to be too much and kept the lead for the entire half.

GSW out-rebounded Belmont Abbey 41-36. The Crusaders had more turn overs with 42 to GSW's 31 but the Lady 'Canes scored 40 points off turn overs compared to Belmont Abbey's 13.

The Lady 'Canes are back on the road December 18 to face Georgia Regents University at 1:00 PM.
