# 20 Nighthawks Rise Over Lady Hurricanes

AMERICUS, Ga.- The Georgia Southwestern women's basketball team led the 20th-ranked North Georgia Nighthawks in the first quarter until the final second when North Georgia took a one point lead eventually taking a 78-65 win Saturday evening in the Storm Dome.

GSW is now 11-5 and 6-3 in the Peach Belt Conference while North Georgia improved to 14-4, 6-3 PBC.

Aleah Holden scored the first four points of the game to give GSW a 4-0 lead. North Georgia tied the game 5-5 with 5:44 left in the first quarter and the Lady 'Canes went on a nine point run to take a 14-5 lead. Brittany Grant put in a 3-pointer followed by Kris Beckham, Shanya Jones and Mallory Diamond all with layups with 3:36 left. 

The Nighthawks retaliated with a 10 point run including a layup in the final second of the first quarter to lead 15-14.

GSW kept themselves within a few points of the lead coming within one point a few times. Va'Queshia Hall put in a jump shot followed by Grant with a 3-pointer to take a one point lead with 2:08 remaining.

North Georgia ended the second quarter with a six point run to lead 38-33.

The Nighthawks made two layups to start the third quarter and take a nine point lead. They then took a 16 point lead with 3:38 left after going on an eight point run.

GSW cut the lead to ten points after Kya Cochran made two free throws followed by Chanice Whitton with a layup and Cochran with a jump shot. GSW ended the third quarter down 58-48.

North Georgia went on an eight point run in the fourth to take a 19 point lead with 4:41 left in the game.

GSW put in five free throws to come within 13 points with 1:39 remaining and finished the game with a layup by Whitton to fall 78-65.

Grant went 3-3 from behind the arc and 4-4 in free throws to record 13 points. Whitton had 10 points and picked up seven rebounds.

The Lady Hurricanes are home Wednesday to host Clayton State at 5:30 p.m.
