Hall Double-Doubles In Clayton State Loss

MORROW, Ga.- Va'Queshia Hall scored 17 points and picked up 11 rebounds for the Georgia Southwestern women's basketball team in their 63-54 loss to Clayton State Saturday evening in The Loch.

GSW dropped to 12-11 overall and 7-9 in the Peach Belt Conference while Clayton State moved to 20-5 and 12-4 PBC.

Clayton State took the lead first and Gabby Figgers tied the game 5-5 with a 3-pointer. The Lakers took a two-point advantage and Kya Cochran made two free throws to tie the game 7-7. Hall put in a layup to take a 9-7 lead for GSW but Clayton State finished the first quarter with a six-point run to be up 13-9 heading into the second quarter.

The Lady 'Canes started the second quarter with a six-point run. Khayla Owens put in a free throw, Brittany Grant made two free throws, Shanya Jones made a layup and Chanice Whitton put in a free throw to take a 15-13 lead.

Clayton State quickly tied the game and took the lead back by one point. Hall put in a layup and a free throw to take a two-point advantage and Clayton State responded with a five-point run. Owens put in a free throw to come within two points and The Lakers finished the quarter making four free throws and a layup to head into halftime up 27-19.

The Lady 'Canes outscored The Lakers 17-15 in the third quarter and even came within one point of the lead but Clayton State finished the quarter with a layup, jump shot and a free throw to head into the final quarter up 42-36.

The Lakers made the first basket of the fourth quarter and Hall put in a layup and a jump shot to get GSW within four points and minutes later got them within two points of the lead.

Clayton State went on a five-point run in the last minute before Grant was able to make a layup to cut the lead to eight. The Lakers finished the game with a free throw to take a nine point win.

Hall's 17 points is a career high at GSW. Figgers scored nine points and Whitton recorded seven points. Both Grant and Owens recorded six rebounds.

The Lady Hurricanes are home on Wednesday to play Georgia College at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday is Senior Night, Play4Kay and Parks and Rec Night in the Storm Dome.
