Lady Canes Get Back On Track With Win At Augusta

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Kris Beckham scored in double-figures for the second straight game, leading the Georgia Southwestern State University women's basketball team to a 64-52 road win in front of 677 at Christenberry Fieldhouse Saturday.

Beckham followed up a 12 point, nine rebound performance at Flagler on Thursday with a team-high 14 points on 6 of 11 shooting for the Lady Canes (5-10, 2-9 PBC).

Brianna Middleton scored 13 points to lead the Jaguars (3-12, 1-10 PBC).

How It Happened: The first quarter wasn't kind to GSW for the second game in a row on the road. The Lady Canes shot 23.5 percent (4 of 17) while Augusta went 6 of 17 (35.3 percent) to take a 17-11 lead after the first 10 minutes.

Georgia Southwestern turned it around in the second quarter, shooting a blistering 58.8 percent from the floor (10 of 17) as Kris Beckham knocked down two from long-range to take a 36-28 lead into the locker room. Beckham logged a season-high 30 minutes on the floor after setting a high of 28 minutes on Thursday at Flagler.

The Lady Canes continued to build on the lead in the third, staying hot from the floor with 57.1 percent shooting to outscore the Jaguars 22-12 and build a 20-point lead. Gabby Figgers hit a 3-pointer and went 3 of 3 from the free throw line.

Both teams struggled in the fourth as GSW scored six points on 12.5 percent shooting, but Augusta was only able to manage 12 on 4 of 8 shooting. The closest the Jags could get was 61-50 with 2:13 to play.

Augusta committed 16 turnovers to 10 for the Lady Canes. GSW scored 22 points in the paint to just 10 for the Jags.

Who Stood Out: Brittany Grant ran the point for the first time this season with both Tamecia Blue and Kya Cochran unavailable. While the stats don't show it all, Grant led the offense by calling the plays and grabbed six rebounds to go along with three assists in 34 minutes on the floor. Shanya Jones added five assists to go along with seven points and two steals. Tyisha Moore scored 12 points to mark the sixth straight and tenth game this season she's scored in double-figures.

Up Next: The Lady Canes return to the Storm Dome Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. when Clayton State visits Americus.
