AMERICUS, Ga. -- No. 21 North Georgia used a big third quarter to get past the Georgia Southwestern State University women's basketball team 83-70 in front of 413 at the Storm Dome Saturday.

Tyisha Moore scored 14 points and grabbed five rebounds to pace the Lady Canes (6-11, 3-10 PBC) while Shanya Jones added 13 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Mackenzie Darrah recorded a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Nighthawks (15-2, 10-1 PBC).

How It Happened: North Georgia jumped out early, scoring the first six points of the game before Tyisha Moore got the Lady Canes on the board with a layup that turned into an 8-2 GSW run. GSW held a 15-14 lead with 3:00 left in the quarter before UNG used a 9-1 run to close it out take a 23-16 advantage after the first.

The second quarter went back-and-forth as both teams shot over 60 percent from the field to race to 27 points a piece. Shanya Jones, Kris Beckham and Tyisha Moore each scored six points in the frame for the Lady Canes, but Vanessa Argusa, Mackenzie Darrah and Amber Skidgel equalled it for UNG to make it a 50-43 game at the break.

The third belonged to the Nighthawks as they held GSW to just 1-of-13 (7.7 percent) shooting from the field. Lauren Duncan made a layup and converted the free throw after getting fouled with 7:28 remaining but that was the last time the Lady Canes put points on the board. UNG shot only 23.8 percent but scored 15 points to take a 65-46 lead to the fourth quarter.

The Nighthawks held their biggest lead of the game at 80-56 with 3:58 remaining after two made free throws by Imani Arnold. GSW closed the game on a 14-3 run in the final four minutes and Adrianne Brown made a layup as time expired to make it an 83-70 final.

GSW scored 24 points off 25 North Georgia turnovers, but were outrebounded 50-40 by the Nighthawks. UNG outscored the Lady Canes 56-36 in the paint.

Who Stood Out: GSW had 11 different players score, the most of the season to this point. Tyra Smith provided energy off the bench by scoring seven points, grabbing four rebounds and recording two steals in just 15 minutes.
