COLUMBUS, Ga. -- Mariya Trimble recorded her second straight double-double, but the Georgia Southwestern State University women's basketball team fell 71-51 to Columbus State at the Lumpkin Center on Wednesday.

Amanda Melosky added nine points and three rebounds for the Lady Canes (7-13, 4-12 PBC).

Tatiana Wayne scored 16 points, grabbed five boards and recorded four steals for the Lady Cougars (13-7, 11-5 PBC).

How It Happened: The first half wasn't kind to the Lady Canes on the offensive end. GSW shot just 6-of-29 (20.7 percent) from the floor in the first 20 minutes en route to digging up a 17-point halftime deficit. Gabby Figgers knocked down the only 3-pointer (1-of-7) in the first half.

Turnovers have been a constant theme in the Georgia Southwestern losses so far this season and that was proven true again in Columbus. The Lady Canes committed 24 turnovers that led directly to 17 points for Columbus State.

GSW was able to get it going a little in the second half, especially early in the third quarter. The Lady Canes scored nine of the first 13 points in the third to cut into the lead, but couldn't keep up the pace down the stretch. The Lady Cougars only held a 32-30 advantage on the scoreboard over the final 20 minutes.

Columbus State won the rebounding battle by a 52-44 mark and scored 10 fast break points compared to zero for Georgia Southwestern. The Lady Cougars also held a 34-18 advantage in points in the paint.

Who Stood Out: Mariya Trimble has scored 32 points and grabbed 29 rebounds in the last two games combined after recording back to back double-doubles. She recorded 15 and 15 Wednesday in just 19 minutes on the court. Tyisha Moore scored six points and brought down three rebounds while making all four of her free throw attempts.
