Lakers Run Past Lady Canes at The Loch

MORROW, Ga. -- Clayton State jumped on the Georgia Southwestern State University women's basketball team early and didn't look back in an 84-55 win over the Lady Canes Wednesday at the Loch.

Mariya Trimble had another big game with 18 points and nine rebounds in the loss for GSW (8-17, 5-16 PBC).

Abreyln Rackley scored 25 points and grabbed 10 boards to lead Clayton State (14-13, 11-10 PBC).

How It Happened: The Lakers got out in front 20-8 after the first quarter, shooting 41 percent from the field compared to 25 percent for the Lady Canes. GSW shot the ball better in the second frame, going 7-of-14, but committed six turnovers that led to five points for Clayton State and a 17-point halftime deficit.

The Lady Canes made some baskets early in the third as they tried to mount a comeback, but couldn't cut into the lead as the Lakers extended it to 26 at the end of the quarter. Clayton State outscored GSW 19-16 in the fourth on the way to the 84-55 final.

GSW outrebounded the Lakers 43-39, but committed 26 turnovers to just 11 for Clayton State. The 26 turnovers led directly to 28 Laker points that ultimately made the difference in the game.

Who Stood Out: Trimble recorded her seventh straight game scoring in double-figures and fell one rebound short of notching her fourth double-double of the season. The junior transfer now leads the team in scoring at 10.5 points per game and rebounding with 6.9 per game.
