WBB Picked 10th in PBC Preseason Poll

AMERICUS, Ga. -- The Georgia Southwestern women's basketball team was voted 10th of 12 teams in the coaches Peach Belt Conference preseason coaches poll, which was presented by Floor Action, Inc. 

GSW received 30 points that placed them above Augusta (27) and Young Harris (15), who rounded out the voting. North Georgia claimed all 11 first-place votes as they are considered top of the conference with 121 points, followed by Columbus State (103) and Lander University (93). Flagler and Francis Marion are tied for fourth place with 90 points each. Georgia College (70), Clayton State (61), UNC Pembroke (57) and USC Aiken (35) are the remaining teams. For voting, coaches were not permitted to rank their own teams.

With 10 new additions (seven freshmen and three transfer student-athletes), GSW is poised to have a turn around season. The Lady Canes are led by junior forward Mariya Trimble, who averaged 10.6 points and 6.8 rebounds per game last season. 

The Lady Canes open their season Nov. 9, on the road competing in the Southeast Region Crossover hosted by Flagler University in St. Augustine, Fla. They will play Limestone and also Lincoln Memorial the following day. The squad open conference play Dec. 10 but will not have their first home conference game until Dec. 17, when Francis Marion comes to town. 

The 2018-19 PBC Tournament will be held March 6, 9-10 with the final four playing at the site of the highest remaining men's seed.
