Senior Sorrow

AMERICUS, Ga. -- Seniors Kris Beckham and Adrianne Brown was looking forward to going out with a bang as they hosted Clayton State for senior night but the Lakers thought otherwise. A huge third quarter lifted Clayton to a 74-56 win over the Georgia Southwestern women's basketball team Wednesday night inside the Storm Dome.

Throughout three seasons, Brown played in 58 games where she tallied 11 blocks and 79 points. Beckham, who has played all four years, played in 99 games for the Lady Canes, where she started 39 times and scored 433 career points.

How It Happened: Brianna Perry got the first seven points on the board for the Lady Canes, who were leading 7-4 with 6:04 remaining in the first quarter. With two minutes left, the Lakers took a quick 12-11 lead but it was erased on the following possession with a Lex Chatman layup. The Lakers converted a pair of free throws followed by a late shot to go into halftime with a 16-13 lead.

Mariya Trimble drained a three to open up the second quarter which tied the score at 16 as both teams strayed from taking the lead away from each other. Coming out of a timeout, the Lakers went on a 13-2 run right into halftime as they were leading 35-23 at the time.

Clayton took a 20-point lead, 48-28, with 5:50 remaining in the third quarter as they scored 25 points in the third quarter alone. The Lakers had a huge 50-39 rebound advantage over the Lady Canes and they also had two less turnovers (29-27) than GSW. Clayton's bench matched GSW (8-19, 5-16 PBC) score with 56 points as they rotated all their starters in and out the game.

Who Stood Out: Trimble finished with a double-double as she had 10 points and 12 rebounds. Perry finished with 15 points and four steals while Brown had nine points and four rebounds.

Clayton's (19-8, 15-6 PBC) Kelsie Towns led the Lakers with a double-double, 13 points and 12 rebounds followed by Madison Newby, who had 10 points.

Up Next: The Lady Canes will host their last game of the season when North Georgia comes to town Saturday for a 1:30 p.m. tip off as GSW celebrates homecoming.
