Lady Hurricanes Undefeated At PBC/SIAC Challenge

COLUMBUS, Ga. -- Three Lady Hurricanes scored in double-digits as the Georgia Southwestern women's basketball team routed Albany State by score of 81-66 in Lumpkin Center during the final game of the PBC/SIAC Challenge. 

GSW forced 26 turnovers to return back to Americus undefeated, with a 3-0 record. 

How It Happened: Dominique Jeffery started the game hot, giving GSW the first six points of the game but Albany State took the lead, 7-6, with a layup by Breanna Wilson with 7:15 minutes left. Ciera Norman pushed the Golden Rams up to a four point lead with a three-pointer before both teams went scoreless for three minutes. A layup by Mariya Trimble ended the scoring drought as the Lady Hurricanes went on a 10-2 run to end the quarter up, 16-12. 

GSW erupted out the second quarter but a jump shot by Norman closed the scoring gap to two points. A three by Madison Johnson led GSW on a 15-4 scoring run. Lex Chatman ended the scoring run with a three as GSW was up by 14 points. Norman bounced back with a three as GSW took the lead, 39-28, going into halftime. 

The Lady Hurricanes started the third quarter with a 9-0 run as a three by Jamesha Samuel pushed GSW to a 15 point lead midway through the third quarter. Another 23-point quarter by the Lady Hurricanes led them to being up by 17 points going into the final quarter, 62-45. 

GSW (3-0) drained nine three pointers on the night as they finished the day shooting 41.2 percent from the field. Albany St. drained six three's and shot only 39.0 percent from the field. The Golden Rams held a 43-37 rebound advantage over the Lady Hurricanes but GSW forced 26 turnovers that led to 25 points off turnovers. 

Who Stood Out: Jeffery ended the day leading GSW with 21 points while adding six rebounds and two steals. Samuel, who drained three from deep, finished with 19 points, three assists and three steals. Chatman finished the day with 10 points with four assists and four rebounds. Trimble led the team with nine rebounds. 

Norman led the Wildcats with 14 points and seven rebounds followed by Alexandria James and Kiara Jackson, who finished with 13 points.
