Bobcats first half too much for GSW

The Georgia College & State University women's soccer team scored four goals in the first half en route to a 5-1 win over the Lady Hurricanes in Milledgeville on Tuesday night.

The first goal of the night came in the 27th minute off a header by Ally Treat.  Karen Bonilla recorded the assist.  Almost four minutes later, Megan McAlpin trickled one to the back of the net for GCSU with an assist from Lyric Burnett.

Georgia College (8-1-2, 2-1-1) went ahead 3-0 in the 40th minute on a Jessica Newland's second chance goal.  The last score of the first half came four minutes later from Jeni Day off a give-and-go on the left side from Mary Byrne.

Freshman Alyssa Goodwin put the Lady 'Canes on the board when she scored her first collegiate goal in the 88th minute to round out the evening's scoring.

GSW goalkeeper Christy Drabek had a busy night between the pipes as GCSU fired 24 shots on goal.  Drabek finished with 18 saves.  One team save was recorded.  The combined 19 stops ties the GSW school record set September 22, 2007 against Armstrong Atlantic.

Georgia College outshot GSW 46-2 and led in corner kicks 15-0.

The Lady Canes (3-10-0, 0-3-0) are back in action on Saturday when they host USC Aiken (2-9-1, 1-2) in a 1:00 p.m. Peach Belt Conference match.
