Montevallo holds serve

The University of Montevallo defended their home pitch by scoring second half goals in a pair of Peach Belt Conference matches with GSW on Saturday afternoon.  The Lady Hurricanes were defeated 1-0 and the men fell 2-0 in the second match. 

Montevallo 1, GSW women 0

The University of Montevallo women's soccer team (5-6-2, 2-3-1 PBC) scored the lone goal of the match early in the second half Saturday afternoon in Montevallo, AL.

Angela Buonassisi came away with the game winner for UM at the 52:47 mark as Natalie Martineau fed her the ball behind the defense for a one-on-one with GSW goalkeeper Amber Bahri.

Montevallo finished with a 11-1 shots on goal advantage and a 7-3 edge in corner kicks.  Bahri saved ten for the Lady Hurricanes.  Alyssa Maxwell made one stop for UM. 

The Lady Hurricanes (3-10, 0-7 PBC) host Clayton State on Wednesday at 1 p.m. during the second annual Couch Potato Challenge.  Bring your sofa, recliner or bean bag - get creative - and show your school spirit while enjoying the match in a comfy seat.  The winning "Couch Potato" wins a $100 pizza gift card

Montevallo 2, GSW men 0

The University of Montevallo men's soccer team (7-5-1, 3-3-0 PBC) scored a pair of second half goals to down GSW.

The Falcons and Hurricanes played a scoreless first half with neither team getting much of an edge as the Falcons ended the half with a 4-2 advantage in shots.

The second half the Falcons out-shot the Hurricanes 11-4 and scored both goals. The Falcons struck first in the 63rd minute as Phil Jackson fed Milan Pualic the ball on the left side of the penalty box. Pualic fired a rocket past the keeper to net his second game-winning goal-in-a-row.

UM's Daniel Pelletier scored 12 minutes later as he headed in a cross from Pualic.

Montevallo finished with a 5-1 shots on goal advantage and a slim 6-4 edge in corner kicks.  David Porley saved three for the Hurricanes. Robert Mueller made one save for UM.
