Lady Hurricanes lose opener, 6-0

VALDOSTA, Ga. - The Georgia Southwestern women's soccer team fell behind 2-0 in the opening half at Valdosta State on Thursday evening and could not recover as VSU handed the Lady Hurricanes a 6-0 defeat in the season opener for both schools.

Christening a brand new facility in front of more than 1,500 fans, the Lady Blazers jumped ahead of GSW early when Hannah Mulkey knocked in a header off an assist from Emily Cooper.

VSU added a score in the 36th minute to take a 2-0 lead into the halftime break.

The Lady Blazers extended their lead to 3-0 less than nine minutes into the second half and posted late scores (75th, 81st and 86th minutes) to put a cap on the evening.

Newcomer Zada Hyatt took GSW's lone shot of the match and Amber Bahri stayed busy between the pipes making seven saves.

Southwestern returns to Valdosta on Saturday for a 7 p.m. match with Queens University of Charlotte to conclude the VSU Tri-Conference Challenge.
