Another 1-0 setback for GSW

AMERICUS - The Georgia Southwestern women's soccer team suffered its second-consecutive 1-0 defeat after falling to West Georgia on Friday afternoon at Hurricane Field.

After a scoreless opening half, UWG (2-4) posted the lone goal of the match in the 69th minute when Cydney Raymond took a deflection and arched a shot far post from 22 yards over the outstretched arms of GSW goalkeeper Amber Bahri for her team-leading fifth score of the season.

Once again, the Lady Hurricanes made things interesting at the end, applying offensive pressure until the final horn, but late shots by Carolann Simpson and Zada Hyatt were saved by UWG goalkeeper Mary Laza and the Wolves improved to 3-0 all-time against GSW.

UWG had four shots on goal; GSW had three. The Lady Hurricanes were caught offside seven times in the match, including twice in the final 12 minutes.

Southwestern (1-4) continues its six-game homestand on Sunday when LaGrange College comes to town for a 5 p.m. contest.
