AMERICUS - The Georgia Southwestern women's soccer team ended a six-match homestand with a 2-0 loss to Georgia College on Saturday afternoon at Hurricane Field. It was the Peach Belt Conference opener for GSW.
The Bobcats (3-5, 2-0 PBC) scored a goal in each half en route to their second conference victory of the fall. Abby Dalton broke a scoreless match in the 31st minute when she converted a penalty kick for her second goal of the season.
Dalton had a role in the second GC goal, as well, as her pass in the 51st minute split the GSW defense and found a sliding Erica Padula in the box.
The Bobcats held a manageable 7-3 advantage in shots on goal. GSW goalkeeper Amber Bahri stopped five and Taylor Cornelius saved four for GC.
Carolann Simpson took two shots - both on goal - to lead the Southwestern offense.
The Lady Hurricanes (3-5, 0-1 PBC) have not fared well against Georgia College over the years. The Bobcats improve to 6-0 all-time against GSW, with GC holding a 22-1 scoring advantage. Saturday's contest, however, matched the Lady Hurricanes' best performance against GC, a 2-0 defeat in 2009.
The Blue & Gold hit the road for a pair of matches, the first coming Wednesday at 5 p.m. against Thomas (Ga.).
