One goal is enough for USC Aiken

AIKEN, S.C. - The Georgia Southwestern women's soccer team was looking for a series of firsts in their Saturday match at USC Aiken (4-6-0, 1-4-0 PBC). The Lady 'Canes were out for their first conference win and its first road conference win. The Pacers, behind a goal from Nicollete Rigon, would deny the Blue & Gold of both.

The game would begin with a scoreless first half that saw a nine to three shot advantage for the Lady Pacers. While being outshot in the first half, all three GSW shots were on goal to just one shot on goal for Aiken. Yet the first shot of the second half would be the difference maker on the night.

Rigon's solo effort would come in the 53rd minute with the forward making a run down the left third of the pitch. She drove into the box, which drew out GSW goalkeeper Amber Bahri. A diving Bahri forced Rigon right, and she was able to send the ball to the near post for the game's only goal.

The final ten minutes of action saw Georgia Southwestern take three shots. However, shots from Ally Canganelli and Zada Hyatt were wide and Brittney Hill's header would be blocked

The 1-0 loss would put GSW's record to a mark of 3-9-0 (0-3-0 PBC). The Lady 'Canes will be back in action on Wednesday as part of a doubleheader. They will travel with the men's team to the campus of Clayton State. The women will preceed the men with the night's kickoffs being at 5:00 pm and 7:30 pm.
