Lady Hurricanes downed in Dahlonega

DAHLONEGA, Ga. – Wednesday's matchup against the North Georgia Saints (12-1-0, 7-1-0 PBC) was a "David versus Goliath" scenario for the Georgia Southwestern women's soccer program. Going into the evening, the North Georgia women's team was ranked 13th nationally. The Lady 'Canes hung tough with the Lady Saints for a majority of the night before dropping the match 4-1.

The Blue & Gold defense held its own in the early going. They would shutout the potent Saint attack for the entire first half behind five first-half saves from GSW goalkeeper Amber Bahri. The junior would finish the night with a season-high eleven saves. While the Lady Hurricanes were able to keep a clean sheet in the first half, the North Georgia offense would find the back of the net several times in the second half.

The scoring action began in the 55th minute when North Georgia's Abby Trevino notched her third goal of the season off an assist from Kelsey Martin. Twenty minutes later, the Lady Saints would tack on an insurance goal, which came off the foot of Melanie Thompson. Thompson was credited for her first goal of the season with the assist going to Taylor Lee.

The second half's attacking pace picked up for GSW as well. The offense's efforts would pay off when Julia Wells gave the Lady Hurricanes an answer to the two North Georgia goals. The Lawrenceville, Georgia native's third goal of the season would make it 2-1 with eight minutes to play.

North Georgia would counter the Wells goal with two more goals late in the game. Caroline Wallace's goal in the 87th minute and Kelly Preston's in the 88th minute would wrap up the evening's scoring action.

The loss puts Georgia Southwestern at a record of 3-12-0 (0-7-0 PBC).  This stretch of road matches will continue its grueling course as the Lady 'Canes will travel to the campus of Peach Belt Leaders, Armstrong Atlantic State University, on Saturday for a 3:30 match.
