#9 Columbus State Rolls Past GSW

COLUMBUS, Ga.- The 9th-ranked Columbus State women's soccer team scored three goals in the first half and eight in the second half to take an 11-0 win over Georgia Southwestern on Saturday afternoon at the Walden Soccer Complex.

GSW lost its fifth straight match and drops to 3-8 overall and 0-6 in the Peach Belt Conference, while Columbus State has won their fourth consecutive match and improved to 9-2 overall and 5-1 in the PBC.

Columbus State took control of the game from the start recording seven shots and five corner kicks before their first goal which came in the 13th minute.

Columbus kept peppering the net with shots the remainder of the first half and scored their second and third goals two minutes apart to lead 3-0 at halftime.

The second half proved to be no different with Columbus controlling the game and keeping the ball in GSW's end. Their fourth goal came 11 minutes into the second half followed by their fifth goal four minutes later. 

Columbus did not let up and and put in six more goals in the remaining 30 minutes including one with 12 seconds left to take an 11-0 victory over GSW.

Khayla Owens recorded GSW's only shot in the game, which was on goal and Columbus recorded 50 shots, 24 of which were on net.

Elyse Gowen (L, 2-7-0) faced 19 shots and saved 11 in the 74:56 minutes she played. Chelsee Wright finished the remaining 15:04 with two saves on the five shots she faced.

The Lady Hurricanes are home on Wednesday to host Clayton State in a conference match at 1 p.m.
