Senior Day Struggle

AMERICUS, Ga.- The Georgia Southwestern women's soccer team gave Francis Marion University their first win of the season Saturday evening at Hurricane Field.

GSW dropped to 3-12 overall and 0-10 in the Peach Belt Conference, while FMU improved to 1-14 and 1-9 PBC.

FMU scored all three of their goal within an eight minute span in the first half. Their first goal came at the 19:36 mark off a cross from the right side. The second goal was scored four minutes later off a free kick from 40 yards out and the third goal came at the 27:23 mark off her own rebound.

The Lady 'Canes stepped up their speed in the second half doubling their amount of shots from the first half. Khayla Owens had six of GSW's 19 shots and also had their only goal of the game.

Owens scored in the 69th minute off a cross from Ella Hawkins. Despite picking up the pace after the goal the the Lady 'Canes fell to a 3-1 loss.

GSW finished with 19 shots, eight of which were on goal. FMU also recorded 19 shots, 13 on goal.

Elyse Gowen faced seven shots and made four saves in the first half and Chelsee Wright made six saves in the second half.

Between halves Gowen, Wright, Shelbi Walker, Kenesha Roberts and Kristin McDonald were recognized for their achievement on and off the field in a Senior Day ceremony.

The Lady Hurricanes travel to Young Harris, Ga. on Wednesday for a conference match against Young Harris College at 4 p.m.
