GSW Records Broken In Lander Loss

GREENWOOD, S.C- Khayla Owens recorded her second hat trick of the season in Georgia Southwestern's 8-3 loss to Lander University Saturday afternoon at Van Taylor Stadium.

The Lady 'Canes fiished their season 3-14 overall and 0-12 in the Peach Belt Conference. Lander moved to 4-11 overall and 3-8-1 in the PBC.

Lander scored their fist goal in the sixth minute and put in four more in a 14 minute window before Owens scored GSW's first goal off a penalty kick in the 41st minute to head into halftime 5-1.

The Lady 'Canes played a better second half holding off Lander for the first 13 minutes before they scored their sixth goal and only allowed two more goals in the 67th and 77th minutes.

Owens got her second goal in the 63rd minute when she headed the ball into the net over the keeper off a free kick from Avery Heid and again in the 86th minute off the assist from Bri Reda to hold Lander to a five goal victory.

With three more goals added onto her season stats Owens becomes the first Lady 'Cane to record two hat tricks in one season and broke the GSW record for most points (20) and most goals (10) in a season. Owens now ranks third in GSW history for most points and goals in a career as a sophomore. She is also tied for most penalty kicks made in both a season and career.

Elyse Gowen made one save in the 45 minutes she played in goal and Chelsee Wright recorded five saves in the 45 minutes she was in net.

Gowen is now the GSW record leader for most saves in a career with 377 saves over her four years. Wright is ranked fourth in career saves with 168.

The Lady 'Canes end their season with a three win improvement from last season and have the best record in GSW women's soccer history.
