Lady Canes Fall in PBC Opener at USC Aiken

AIKEN, S.C. -- The Georgia Southwestern State University women's soccer team fell 3-0 to USC Aiken in the Peach Belt Conference opener in front of 162 at the Pacer Pit Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Canes (0-5-0, 0-1-0 PBC) hung tough for more than 71 minutes down by just a goal, but couldn't find chances on the offensive end after the Pacers converted a penalty kick in the 27th minute to open the scoring.

USC Aiken (3-5-0, 1-2-0 PBC) added their second goal in the 72nd minute when Catherine McHale beat GSW goalkeeper Sammie Conley from five yards out. The Pacers would find the final goal in the 87th minute when Marissa Lee scored off of a corner kick.

GSW was outshot 31-3 by USC Aiken on the afternoon, including 15-0 in shots on goal and 7-3 in corner kicks.

Senior midfielder Haley West was able to take two shots for the Lady Canes, while junior forward Ella Hawkins took the other. 

Conley made 12 saves for the Lady Canes on the 15 Pacer shots on goal.

Up Next: GSW returns home Wednesday for the PBC home opener against Flagler. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
