Bearcats Too Much For Lady Canes On Senior Day

AMERICUS, Ga. -- The Lander University women's soccer team had too much offense for GSW to overcome in a 4-0 defeat in the season finale in front of 179 at Hurricane Field Saturday.

The Bearcats (8-7-0, 4-6-0 PBC) struck first in the 18th minute when Chloe Le Franc found the back of the net off a pass from Kayla Walker. LU would add their second goal in the 37th minute, but didn't score again until the final 10 minutes of the match to put it out of reach.

Lady Canes goalkeeper Ellie Cook made the most of her first career start in goal. Cook made 11 saves, including several impressive plays that would have led to more Bearcat goals had she not gotten a hand on the ball.

GSW (0-15-0, 0-10-0 PBC) celebrated seven seniors in their final match and Haley West, one of those seniors, was able to put two shots on goal. The first coming off a free kick that was going to sneak in the top of the goal before Lander goalkeeper Sarah Owen got a hand on the ball to knock it over the crossbar.
