Lions Roar Past GSW in Season Opener

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. -- The Georgia Southwestern women's soccer team opened it's 2018 season with a 4-0 lost to Emmanuel College Saturday evening at the Stephens Athletic Complex.

Junior Alison Rugel led the Lady Canes (0-1-0) with four shots while senior teammate Shelbie Mills had two shots during tonight's contest.

Emmanuel's (1-0-0) Hannah Logue, who scored twice, put the first points on the board for the Lions as she scored back-to-back goals in the first 10 minutes of the first half. Logue scored in the fourth minute and again in the ninth minute to put the Lions up 2-0. The Lion's Kayla Brown scored at the 15 minute mark to put Emmanuel up 3-0 going into halftime. Their last goal came in the 51st minute by Lindsay Lee as they kept the lead throughout the whole game.

Overall, the Lady Canes took 10 shots, as seven of them came in the second half. GSW had three on goal shots coming from Brianna Mendonca, Avery Heid and Mills.

Up Next: GSW travels to Central, South Carolina on Sept. 5 to take on Southern Wesleyan University at 5:00 p.m.
